SSSP - StarGarden Foundation Ongoing School Donations Project

It began with the simple giving of a few pencils and some candy back in 1994. By 1998 almost every member of the Southern Skies Star Party was stuffing school supplies in those extra nooks and crannys of their luggage. The SSSP adopted the schools in the area near the Unca Utama Resort as well as the children of the Hotel's employees. In 1999 with the help of our host Darius Morgan we started a public star party for the families of the area as well... complete with free food and drink for everyone. For most, it was their first chance to look in a telescope and see the stars and nebula up close. In 1999 we also formed the StarGarden Foundation, Inc., a 501-c-3 not-for-profit devoted exclusively to astronomy. All donations to StarGarden and the kids of Bolivia are tax deductable. Each year the program grows with the help of all the people associated with the Southern Skies Star Party. Computers, telescopes and literally tons of schools supplies have been donated to the schools on the shores of Lake Titicaca in the past few years.
