Day 3 - Tatakoto - Tahiti
11JUL Eclipse Morning! Up Early for our flight to Tatakotu!
We awake this morning for a pre-dawn departure to Tatakoto Atoll.  Our specially chartered flight will arrive at dawn on the runway directly in the path of totality.  Our viewing site is a mere 1200 feet from the runway through the tall coconut palms on the peaceful inland shore facing northeast. We have a few hours during the partial phases to tiptoe across the motu's shallows to find our own private viewing spots before enjoying 4min 25 sec of totality at our site. We debark by plane at noon for our return to Papeete.

We return to the hotel and have some free time before our celebration dinner where we enjoy a dinner show of traditional Tahitian dance performances overlooking the water's edge.

Day 5
13 JUL Moorea
If you weren't in the Island mood before, then you will be by now. The Intercontinental Moorea offers a one-of-a-kind interactive dolphin program option that allows you to enter the water with dolphins.  The dive center is full serice and for those who forgot their snorkel, they even have dive helmet tours with no experience necessary. Tonight, we have organized a special star party for the group.  On the hotel grounds, we have selected a special, open but secluded spot where we can set up our scopes and enjoy some Southern Sky Stargazing. From here we should be able to see Crux, Omega Centauri and Eta Carinae. Intercontinental Hotel

Day 6,
14 July Moorea
Do not pass the chance to snorkel or dive in Moorea: the reef is terrific, with beautiful corals and an incredible amount of fish, and the lemon sharks are quite an attraction- and a favorite among divers. Even on an entry level dive you’ll be able to see clown fishes in their anemone, reef sharks, and a multitude of brightly colored tropical reef fishes. Perhaps the best dive location is the area known as the Rose Garden, just outside of the entrance to Opunohu Bay. The actual Rose Garden is approximately 85ft in depth, making this dive trickier for new divers, but the accompanying spur-and-groove formations at about 30-40ft are also beautiful. Jen Winter has performed a site inspection and met with each hotel manager, and the airline regarding this program.  Each hotel was hand selected for value for our customers and our type of traveler.  Hotel managers are enthusiastic about astronomy and our group. Each hotel posts daily weather bulletins in the lobby. We negotiated special group contracts to keep costs under control in an otherwise expensive destination. Our flight to Tatakoto is a special charter with Air Tahiti outside the usual range of the aircraft. A significant component in the cost of this tour is that segment..  Once this plane is full, it is unlikely another can be contracted.

Group size on this program is
limited to 35 passengers.
